The Brief: Expansion plans at the University of Durham required the electrical supply to be upgraded. However the existing substation was located in a pedestrian only area that was not accessible to vehicular traffic for unloading.
The Solution: IUS supplied and installed a new 800kVA, 20,000/433V transformer coupled with an external Ring Main Unit and LV distribution cabinet. To overcome the problem of access the services of a specialist lifting company were employed to facilitate the positioning of the transformer which had to be craned over the University's buildings.
The Results: Significant logistical problems can be overcome with good, experienced project management. The university is certainly pleased with our performance.
