11kV Network Re-structuring Customer
Customer Name: Bishop Burton College
The Brief: As part of an expansion plan the prestigious agriculture and equine college located at Bishop Burton village in East Yorkshire was looking to re-structure the 11kV electrical network as well as add in some additional capacity. The site expansions will provide state of the art facilities that will be used by British as well as international equestrian athletes up to and during the 2012 London Olympics.
The Solution: A large scale deployment of IUS resources during the summer of 2008 was carefully co-ordinated by the IUS Project Manager. A new intake substation was provided by IUS, which included design, procurement, installation and testing of the 11kV switchgear and cabling. The establishment of two new 11kV substations to supply on site accommodation and agricultural facilities was also included within the project scope. Finally the high voltage supply to an existing substation located at the boiler house was also connected.
The Results: Through meticulous project management and close liaison with the client the work was completed within the set timescales. The college was also classified as a 'Hot Earth Site' due to the 11kV overhead line supply from the distribution network operator. Additional earths were installed to ensure that asset protection would operate efficiently and to prevent dangerous 'floating potentials'.
